This picture of printers at the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald was taken about 60 years ago.

The premises where the printers worked are still at the back of the Gazette offices in the Market Place.

In those days, long before computers, the paper was both written and printed in Devizes. But the printing operation moved to Swindon in the 1950s and since then the buildings that housed the printing part have been left unused.

The picture was brought in by George Underwood, who is pictured fifth from the left at the back.

He says that the picture was taken to mark an occasion when Colonel Littlewood of the National Farmers Union took them all for a drink.

Colonel Littlewood is pictures right at the back of the photograph.

The names of all the people in the picture are, from left, Fred Amour, a linotype operator, Fred Vaughan, A Woodruff, Fred Fuller, who set up copy, George Underwood, Tom Morris, B Humphries, Ken Abrams, Dickie Phillips, a binder, Colonel Littlewood, Bill Smith, J Bond, a linotype operator, M Cool. Front are W Elliott, Ken Axford and Arthur Wilthrie, a printer.
