Rachel Multon of Uphill, Urchfont, has sent in this picture from the 1930s showing five Devizes Rangers – including her mum, known as Girlie – and their captain, their arms linked as they stride purposefully towards the camera.
The Rangers, who were in their late teens at the time, were taking part in a camping trip on the south coast. Mrs Multon can’t remember exactly where the photo was taken but she thinks it might have been Bournemouth.
Pictured left to right are Phil Forbes, Hilda Bessant, Girlie (Ruth) Wiltshire, Capt Stella Holloway, Sheila Wild and Florence Bailey.
Girlie (Ruth) Wiltshire used to live in Victoria Road, Devizes.
Mrs Multon said: “They were all her friends and they kept in touch for many years.”
Young women progressed to the Rangers when they grew too old for the Girl Guides and Rangers are usually aged somewhere between 14 and 25.
Mrs Wiltshire was a Girl Guide before becoming a Ranger and later went on to become a member of the Trefoil Guild.
Trefoil members are willing volunteers who meet regularly and remain actively involved in Girlguiding.
