READERS battling against 'fake news' surrounding topics such as the European Union can get an expert insights into the topic through a new All You Need to Know Series.

Potted histories of World War II, Slavery and the British Empire have been written by renowned authors and commissioned by founder of news magazine The Week, Jolyon Connell.

The former Sunday Telegraph deputy editor set out to make these subjects accessible to fit in with people’s busy lives and the even busier stream of constant news and information available online.

Mr Connell, from Lacock, said: “These are big topics and sometimes people can feel daunted by them. These books mean that people can read about the essence of the subject and be able to talk about it by reading a concise book.

“People are getting busier and busier and there is more and more information being thrown their way, you just have to look at the internet.

“We all want to learn about new things but we want to do it in an easy way.

“It is a challenge to keep the writing short but I think it is one that the authors have enjoyed doing.”

The series is set to extend past history and cover a range of topics including Stalin, how to read a poem and sexuality.

Mr Connell continued: “I think books are nice things to hold. People are aware that they spend so much time already looking at their screens they like the feel of books in their hands.”

The All You Need to Know series launches in April.
