Corsham’s large military population came out in force for the town’s annual Remembrance parade yesterday.

Representatives from all three armed services, and the civilian personnel based at MOD Corsham marched down the High Street to a packed service at St Bartholomew’s Church, before heading to the war memorial to lay wreaths.

Councillor Ruth Hopkinson, chairman of Corsham Town Council said: “It was a huge turnout from a vast cross-section of the community, all paying their respects to the fallen.

“The parade was conducted with perfect precision, with a big turnout from not just serving members of the military, but retired veterans and an extremely strong showing from uniformed youth groups. The Scouts, guides and St John Ambulance were all there, there were hundreds of them.

“A huge number of the general public attended the church service, it was absolutely packed.

“There were about 15 wreaths laid at the memorial, and the public who didn’t attend the service waited there for the second part. There were hundreds and hundreds of people there.”
