Vivienne Gregory, the Calne woman who has terrorised her neighbourhood for years, has finally been locked up after yet another breach of a court injunction – 19 days after a judge spared her jail.

Gregory, 52, has been a constant nuisance to her neighbours in Dixon Way with her drunken shouting and swearing and the volatile nature of her relationship with husband Russell.

Last year she had an injunction slapped on her by the courts. But after several breaches Judge Charles Wade told her on October 7 that her last chance had come and that if she did not stop the drinking and abusive behaviour she would face jail. Then on Wednesday last week she was arrested again for similar acts and remanded in custody.

She admitted the breach when she was hauled in front of Judge Wade at Swindon Magistrates’ Court again yesterday.

Iain Wightwick, prosecuting on behalf of Westlea Homes, Gregory’s landlord, said neighbours had “expressed an extreme frustration at what has been happening”.

He added: “Her behaviour hasn’t changed. They feel it has reached a crisis point now. PC Emma Reed has also expressed, on behalf of the police, the frustration they feel at the huge amounts of time, resources and finances taken up to deal with Mrs Gregory.”

He also said Westlea had started to repossess her house.

Timothy Samuel, defending, said: “This is not someone who has completely ignored what was said to her. She is taking steps to deal with this and she has lapsed.

“It is not an easy thing to give up any addiction. People will struggle to overcome addictions. They do have lapses.”

Judge Wade sentenced Mrs Gregory to three months in prison, which included activating an eight-week suspended sentence she had been given for a previous breach.

He said: “You have admitted a further breach of the injunction. This is a continuation of the sort of behaviour you have indulged in over a significant period of time.

“You have behaved in a way which has caused neighbours extreme distress, so much so that there have been instances of neighbours wanting to move away. This cannot go on. You must immediately go to prison.”
