A CYCLIST was feared to have life threatening injuries after he was involved in a collision with a van and a tractor and trailer in Fyfield yesterday afternoon.

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended the incident on the A4 Bath Road close to the Fyfield Filling Station after the first police officers to attend reported the cyclist, a 46-year-old man from Calne, had lost a lot of blood from an arm laceration.

Although the rider had serious injuries including a head injury and a fractured ankle, paramedics said his condition was not life-threatening but he was taken to Swindon's Great Western Hospital in the air ambulance.

Police said it appeared that the cyclist, the tractor and trailer and a Peugeot van were all heading in the same direction.

The tractor driver pulled in at the side of the road after warning lights come on in his cab.

As the cyclist overtook the van he was involved in a collision with the van and with the tractor.

Residents from nearby homes rushed out to give first aid to the injured rider until the paramedics arrived.

The road remained closed for four hours with diversions set up at Marlborough and Beckhampton roundabout while the accident was dealt with an officers recorded the scene.
