Cystic Fibrosis sufferer Tamzin Truman’s dreams came true when she met her High School Musical hero.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation charity organised for her to meet actress Ashley Tisdale, who plays Sharpay Evans in the three High School Musical films, at the Soho Hotel in London as a reward for her bravery in dealing with her condition.

Tamzin, eight, of Spital-croft Road, Devizes, has suffered from the condition, which affects the major organs, in particular the lungs, since she was a baby.

She had her first operation when she was just two days old and since then her intensive daily routine includes two sessions of physiotherapy and a whole array of medication.

“She goes through a lot in a day,” said her father Justin Truman, 40, who works for Haydens Bakeries in Devizes. He said: “She is a fairly bright kid, but she has missed out on a lot.”

Tamzin, a pupil at Nursteed School, has to take a handful of tablets every time she eats, sometimes swallowing up to 70 in a day.

“She takes it all in her stride”, said Mr Truman. “If you look from the outside she’s fine; if you turn her inside-out she’s knackered.”

“Tamzin is like any normal eight-year-old child,” said mum Andrea, 37. “She throws tantrums when she can’t get her own way and makes you laugh with the funny things that she says or does.

“The only difference is that she has Cystic Fibrosis.”

When Tamzin was referred to Starlight, the UK’s leading wish-granting charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses and asked who she would like to meet, the decision was simple for her.

Her parents says she loves dressing up as Sharpay and dancing to the three films’ soundtracks.

But when she came face to face with her idol, at the Soho Hotel in London, Tamzin was dumbstruck, despite having rehearsed questions to ask the celebrity.

Mr Truman said “To see Tamzin’s wish granted was amazing.

“She had a day that wasn’t controlled by her medication, physio or even by her parents, just a day filled with happiness and excitement of meeting her idol.”

Mr Truman plans to organise a charity ball to raise money and awareness with the help of four Devizes firms.
