Visitors to Kemble’s Cotswold Airshow are in for an aviation first, when a foreign team displays in the UK for the first time.

Next month’s show, on June 18 and 19, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Hawker Hunter jet and is set to feature a spectacular diamond nine formation flypast.

Taking part will be two aircraft from the Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation (DHHF), which has never performed in the skies above Britain before.

Formed in 2005 by a group of military aircraft enthusiasts, and supported by the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the DHHF only operates its aircraft for around 40 hours a year.

Event organiser Glen Moreman said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming the DHHF in what we understand is their first ever UK display,” he said.

“Enthusiasts will obviously be aware of the organisation and the aircraft they maintain but to see them over here is a real coup.

“The show is shaping up very nicely and we have already had confirmation that a total of 11 Hunters will be present to commemorate the anniversary.”

In addition to the Hunter, the show will include a wider Hawker and vintage jet theme and it is hoped aircraft such as the Sea Fury, Hurricane and the Sea Hawk will be able to take part.

The show will also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire and at least three Spitfires will be present.

There will also be a strong contingent of modern military aircraft, which will be spearheaded, once again, by a return home of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, who were based at the airport for 16 years.

Tickets for the event are priced at £19.50 for adults (£25 on the day), £5 for children aged six to 16, while fives and under will be admitted free. They are available through www.cotswoldairshow.com.
