I read your article concerning the fact that Marlborough town councillors have decided that a relief road skirting St John’s School grounds is more important for the town than extra playing fields.

Apparently the relief road is needed to facilitate the building of up to 250 homes near Marlborough Business Park. This poses a much bigger question than the mere provision of playing fields.

Unless these new homes are retirement homes then presumably they are going to contain families. This means they will have children.

As St John’s School is already greatly oversubscribed can the council please tell me where these children are going to be educated?

It is time that the council and the school put aside past differences and work together to provide the best solution for the children.

It would be egregious in the extreme to allow houses to be built with no thought of extra school places or facilities and I would be very interested to read of the council’s plans for this extra infrastructure – it should make an interesting article.

A road is fine, but make sure it is not a road to nowhere.
