Volunteers are hoping to be able to offer boat rides by Easter at a rejuvenated waterway around Chaveywell Bridge in Calne.

Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal Trust has spent almost £4,000 rejuvenating the former waterway, using money mainly from Calne Area Board.

Volunteer co-ordinator Doug Harris said: “The aim is to have everything ready to offer boat rides as part of the town’s Easter events.”

He said that, within the next few weeks the level of the landing stage will be raised and new paving slabs laid.

A a small brick retaining wall will be built to prevent soil slippage.

Other volunteers are improving the drainage and uncovering some of the original hardstanding.
