A team of airmen from RAF Lyneham is taking on a gruelling 1000-mile fitness challenge in a bid to raise £10,000 for charity.

The eight-strong unit, from 33 Engineering Support Squadron will attempt the ultra duathalon, which involves a 20km run, 80km bike ride and a final 10km run, as they travel from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

The 15-day challenge, dubbed RAF Lyneham’s Last Stand, will raise money for charities Help for Heroes, RAF Benevolent Fund, CLIC Sargent and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The team comprises Flight Lieutenant Carl Lawson, Sergeants Richard Bromley, Darren Jeffrey, Kieran O’Neill, Senior Aircraftmen Kristian Archer, Pete Forman, Richard Burrows and Elliot Rowsell. All have served in Afghanistan and Iraq but have been taking tips from a different source for this challenge, from Team GB duathlon national team manager Jez Cox.
