Chippenham woman Marie Indge had her 15 minutes of fame on Thursday after facing off against Anne Robinson, one of TV’s most fearsome presenters and winning The Weakest Link.

Mrs Indge, of Avebury Road, took home £950 in the televised competition, which was filmed in December last year.

The mum-of-two says her career as a sports teacher at Wiltshire College’s Lackham campus helped her take home the prize.

Mrs Indge said: “I teach sport, recreation and outdoor adventure, so I have some experience of keeping cool under pressure and speaking in front of lots of people.

“Mind you, I don’t want to sound cocky because I was honestly very nervous indeed about being on the show.

I had terrible butterflies when it all started.”

Mrs Indge, who is married to husband Richard and has two children, seven-year-old son Thomas and nine-year-old daughter Alex, said the money matters less than the winning.

“It was quite a small prize for the show, and I think that some contestants didn’t necessarily play the game very well,” she said.

“However, it means a lot more to me that I can say I won The Weakest Link. It really is a great accolade and I’m very pleased.”

Mrs Indge was flown to Glasgow for the filming of the programme after applying for her place in March last year.

“There was a lot of pressure on during the filming,” she said.

“It was quite a stressful thing to be a part of.

“There’s no audience so it’s just you, the other contestants and Anne Robinson.

“She really hammered me too. My official job title is an advanced practitioner, but she wore that down and told me I was actually a PE teacher, which of course I trained as, but diversified away from throughout my career.”

The family plan to spend the money on tickets to the Olympics.

Mrs Indge said: “I spent some of the money on Christmas but I’d really like to take the kids to the Olympics.

“I don’t mind what we see, I just want to be a part of it and I think it’ll be a nice thing for them to go along to.”
