A toddler who fell from a bedroom window in Moorlands, Chippenham, on Tuesday is still at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

The two-year-old boy fell from the first floor window, landing on a patch of grass at the front of the house. Neighbour Naomi O’Keeffe said she was horrified at the accident.

“I heard a baby cry out and I looked out of the window to see him on the ground,” she said.

“I didn’t understand what had happened right away because I saw him get up and climb on the sofa in their front garden, but he was just screaming. His mum came running out and she was as white as a sheet, she kept trying to calm him down but he wouldn’t stop crying.”

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in a field behind the street to take the toddler to RUH, and his mother travelled with him to hospital.

A police spokesperson said: “All we can say at the moment is that a young lad fell from an upstairs window at his home. He landed in grass at the front of the property. We don't know the nature of his injuries at the moment but he was conscious when he was airlifted to RUH.”

Diane Weed, who lives next door, said: “I didn’t see him fall, but I was straight over there after it happened holding his hand as we waited for the ambulance.

“That little boy is the light of his mum’s life and she would never want anything bad to happen to him. I saw her face after he fell and she was as white as a ghost. I just want him to be okay.”

A spokesperson for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “Although we can’t comment on his condition since arriving at the hospital, we believe he sustained some bruising to his legs and a hurt foot in the fall. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
