An inquest was opened yesterday morning into the death of Wiltshire deputy chief constable David Ainsworth, who was found hanged in his garage in Potterne last week.
Coroner David Ridley recorded that prior to the arrival of acting detective chief inspector Peter Chamberlain his body was taken down and was lying in a garage attached to the house. He was identified by his partner, Joanna Howells, and by the chief inspector, before being taken to Salisbury district hospital.
Mr Ridley said he was satisfied with the identification evidence and had signed the burial order. He then adjourned the inquest until a later date, with a review due on June 1, and a target date later that month.
Mr Ainsworth, 49, was under investigation by the Wiltshire Police Authority.
