To Paulette Gilbert’s family she is the best mum in Wiltshire, if not the world.

But now it is official. Mrs Gilbert, 62, from Hillworth Road, Devizes, is Wiltshire’s Best Mum in a poll organised by the Gazette & Herald.

Mrs Gilbert was gobsmacked to get back from a cruise around the Canary Islands with her husband Gerald last week to find she had won – as she didn’t know she had been nominated.

She said: “My daughters put me forward for this. I didn’t know anything about it until we got back from holiday and they showed me the paper.

“Of course, I am delighted and very flattered. But then, I’ve got a nice family. They are really wonderful.”

Mrs Gilbert is a care assistant at Chippenham maternity unit and Mr Gilbert, also 62, is an HGV driver. They have five children aged from 45 to 17, Helen, Matthew, Tammy, Carly and Jack, with 11 grandchildren.

Daughter Tammy Jones spoke for the whole family when she said: “She is always there for us and is easy to talk to. She always makes time for us. She is just a wonderful mum in every way.”

On her nomination Tammy and Carly wrote: “Mum is so caring, kind and would do anything for her children, grandchildren and family.”

Mrs Gilbert receives £50 worth of flowers from Chippenham florists Amaranthus.
