Teenagers were not only daubing graffiti inside Marlborough town hall on Sunday they were being encouraged to do it.

They also took part in street dance lessons as part of an event organised by the We Love Marlborough arts promotion group.

Students aged 13-18 from St John’s School, Pewsey Vale School and Marlborough College went along for the chance to learn how to street dance and learn from graffiti artist Ben Tobin.

Under the guidance of Ben the teenagers used spray cans to create a backdrop for the street dancing which was led by top dancer Merville Jones who took the young people through routines rather like those presented by the Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity and the film Street Dance UK.

Louise Davison, who helped organise the event for We Love Marlborough, said it was a great success and provided an opportunity for students from the three senior schools in Marlborough and Pewsey to work together.

The street dance and graffiti students were filmed by other students under the supervision of TV director Peter Anderson.

Mrs Davison said: “Ask any of the young people who took part and they will tell you how much they enjoyed it. It was such a success that they asked if it could be repeated.

“All the day’s action was filmed by the young people themselves under the watchful eye of Peter Anderson and at the end of the day when parents and friends arrived to watch a five-minute dance sequence by the teenagers, they were also treated to an edited film of the day’s activities.”
