A Grist Group employee who looted items from a crashed car that was brought into the firm’s Devizes depot has been given a conditional discharge.

Gary Jefferies, 46, of Shepton Mallett, appeared before magistrates in Salisbury last Thursday to plead guilty to theft.

Jefferies admitted taking a Garmin satellite navigation unit, a DVD player and two DVDs, with a value of £530, from the Honda Civic while working at the depot on Hopton industrial estate on January 10.

Because of his admission to police and that he had lost his job as a result, magistrates gave him a 12-month conditional discharge with £85 costs.
