The funeral of six-year-old Finlay Connor, who died as the result of a collision with a school bus, will be held at St Mary’s Church at Woodborough on Saturday.

His mother Nicola, who received serious abdominal, leg and head injuries in the incident, is hoping to be well enough to attend.

Finlay died after being airlifted to hospital after he was struck by a school coach as he and his mother were walking to Woodborough School, where his father Greg was a former PTA chairman.

The family lives in Great Cheverell and Mr Connor had driven his wife and elder son to Woodborough and was parked a short distance away from the school when the tragedy occurred.

Finlay was thrown clear of the bus but his mother became trapped and firefighters took two hours to free her before she could be taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Mrs Connor’s condition remained critical for several days but this week she has shown signs of improvement and has been sitting up.

Another Woodborough parent said that Mrs Connor intends to be at Finlay’s funeral.

Mr and Mrs Connor, who lived in Pewsey until they moved to Great Cheverell recently, have another son, Louis, who is three.

Pupils at Woodborough School have already taken part in their own memorial service.
