Bromham Football Club has been granted planning permission to retain nine floodlights.

The club was refused permission by Wiltshire Council last year to keep 11 floodlights because of light pollution to neighbouring residents.

It submitted a revised plan to keep nine floodlights. It said the floodlights were necessary in order for the youth teams to train at night.

The club has a thriving youth section, with eight teams of youngsters aged between five and 16, but without floodlights the future of its youth sides would have been in doubt.

Planning officers at Wiltshire granted the club’s application to keep nine floodlights with the condition that they are only switched on between 5.30pm and 9pm.

Tom Paget, chairman of Bromham Football Club, said: “We are happy common sense has prevailed. It’s good for the future of the football club.”
