Former headteacher Marjorie Cox died on March 14 at the age of 95.
She trained as a teacher in 1936, and held various posts, culminating in 25 years as headteacher of Islip Manor Infants School, Greenford Middlesex.
She and her husband, the late Ernest (Ted) Cox, who died in 2000, moved to Sutton Benger in 1983 where they became involved with village life.
They enjoyed their large garden which won a local Garden of the Year award and which they opened to the public in aid of charities.
Mrs Cox arranged flowers for the church for ten years. She also supported ARC, Polio Plus and Rotary charities and ran a service of reading to the blind for ten years.
An ardent bridge player, Mrs Cox held the post of chairman and vice-chairman of Corsham and Malmesbury bridge clubs respectively. She also played golf and was a former Lady Captain of West Middlesex Golf Club.
Family and friends gathered in Sutton Benger Church on Friday March 25 to celebrate her life.
