SCHOOLCHILDREN were given a master-class in dance by a former professional Broadway ballet dancer recently as part of their school enrichment programme.

Youngsters aged between four and seven from Redland Primary School, off Brook Street, Chippenham, were taught ballet and street dances, which culminated in a performance for their parents.

The children were given expert training by Mark Mitchell, who performed in Swan Lake on Broadway, and his wife and fellow professional ballet dancer Claire, who are parents of fiveyear- old Redland pupil Grace.

Headteacher Hilary Walton said: “It was just incredible.

“We have got two parents who used to be professional ballet dancers and their expertise with the children was simply secondto- none.

“It’s in line with our school ethos to support those children who are talented in different ways.”

The pupils watched video clips of Mr Mitchell performing Swan Lake before starting the workshop.

The ballet dancers went on to give a performance of Ugly Duckling while those learning street dancing gave a performance to Katie Perry’s Firework.
