The search, run by the college’s business arm Wiltshire Enterprise, was kicked off recently by vice principal Bev Flanagan at its Trowbridge campus.

She released 100 balloons to symbolise each of the apprentices the campaign hopes to recruit for firms.

Apprentices helped man the large 100 cut out lettering which has been prepared for the campaign.

Throughout the campaign a range of activities are planned including the Apprentice Awards Ceremony this month when Nick Hewer, Alan Sugar’s right hand man from The Apprentice, will be handing out awards.

The college offers apprenticeships in all areas of commerce but has provided bespoke training packages for firms with specialist needs.

Ms Flanagan said: “Students can come here, learn and work at the same time and come out qualified and free of debts. They come out work-ready.

People think of apprenticeships as being craftbased but now we offer a range of bespoke apprenticeships for laboratory technicians to medical secretaries and chefs.

“We attract people from all across Wiltshire and beyond and not only is it good for the apprentice, but the scheme is good for employers because their staff are home-grown and they can train them how they want.”

Christie Urch, 17, from Devizes, is a first year level 2 hairdressing apprentice.

She said: “I come to the college at Trowbridge once a week and the rest of the week I am working at a hairdressers in Devizes. It is a practical way of learning and working at the same time.”
