I applaud Malcolm Irons, the headteacher of Devizes School, for trying to solve the problem of the pupils running onto Nurstead Road through the side gate of the school.
However, there was an alternative. That is to ask the council to put a rail outside on the pavement so that they could not run directly into the road.
In addition, I wonder if he has solved one problem only to have another. I was driving along Nurstead Road recently on my way into town when I saw a number of pupils climbing over the fence and the gate. One even jumped onto the pavement and rolled into the road. Thank goodness I saw them. I think that he needs to think again.
