One of Wiltshire’s top cops, Chief Superintendent Paul Howlett, has retired.
Ch Spt Howlett has served 30 years with the force. The officer, who lives in Devizes, started his career at Warminster.
The majority of his career was spent in CID, which he rose to head.
He served as acting Assistant Chief Constable and for the past three years was commander of the Swindon police division.
Some of the major investigations for which he was the senior officer was the murder of Amanda Edwards, 21, from Purton, and the murders of Roy and Joan Clarke, of Melksham, by their son, Michael.
Ch Spt Howlett said: “I have been tremendously fortunate to have enjoyed a wide and varied police career.”
With two children to support through university, Ch Supt Howlett said he would be looking for another job .
