Young people are getting on their bikes to find work, thanks to the Devizes-based organisation Community First.

It is running a scheme called Making Tracks, which lends 50cc scooters to those in the Devizes, Tidworth, Amesbury, Westbury and Warminster areas who would otherwise be unable to get to work.

The scheme, funded by the Plain Action rural development programme over two years, aims to provide scooters to 30 people in the area.

The programme gives compulsory basic training, breakdown cover, maintenance costs, a jacket, gloves and lock and a scooter for up to six months to people aged 16 and over who would otherwise be unable to find work or work-based training.

In return, a weekly wear-and-tear charge is made based on what riders can afford.

Liam Tatton-Bennett at Community First said: “So far the Making Tracks scheme has helped ten local people to get to work or work-based training, but we want to hear from others who want to access work but who are prevented from doing so because of transport problems.”
