Indie band the Street Orphans, made up of four Calne teenagers, has made the regional final of the music competition Live and Unsigned.

The band is made up of 19-year-old Sam Prentice and 18-year-olds Harry Sayers, James Nash and Matt Jopling, all of whom are current or former John Bentley School pupils.

They beat competition from 350 artists to get this far and go forward to the regional final at Cardiff Coal Exchange on March 20, where they will be pitting their talents against 15 other competitors for a place in the area finals.

Sam, who is in the sixth form at John Bentley and plays lead guitar, said: “We’ve been together for about three years, mostly playing local pubs.

“But in the last year we’ve got more popular and got more fans and started playing better venues. Because the other guys are all at different unis we don’t get to practise as much as we would like but we are all really good mates. The band feels like a second family.”
