A former teacher from Derry Hill School, Calne, was on Friday charged with making and possessing indecent images of children and voyeurism.

Richard Michael Watkins, 28, from Calne, was charged in relation to an allegation he had indecent images.

A police spokesman said: “The indecent images do not involve children at Derry Hill School in Calne, where he was employed as a teacher before he resigned in November last year.

“However, the voyeurism charge does relate to his actions in the school, although it did not involve indecency.”

Watkins remains on conditional bail and will appear before magistrates in Chippenham on Tuesday March 8.

The school issued letters to parents from Detective Superintendent Sarah Bodell, of Wiltshire Police, and Carolyn Godfrey, of the Department for Children and Education.

In it they explained the charges laid against Watkins.

It went on to say: “The next steps will depend on whether Mr Watkins enters a plea of guilty or not guilty. If he elects to plead not guilty the case will be listed for a trial at a later date.”
