The mother of teenager Jennifer Dietschmann has spoken of the terrible moment she found the 19-year-old dead with her screaming baby by her side.

Sue Dietschmann went to her daughter’s home in Chippenham after boyfriend Mat Thomas became worried when she did not answer his calls. She said: “I found her last Tuesday. I went to their house with him to find it all in darkness. I could sense something was wrong so I told Mat to wait and went up to the bedroom.

“I could hear the baby screaming and I found them together on the bed. This was at about 5pm but I think she had been gone since 7 or 8 that morning.”

Miss Dietschmann lived with Mr Thomas and three-month-old Ava at Ayr Close. Her death has left family, friends and former teachers devastated.

Mrs Dietschmann said: “It has been awful. People have been coming around to support me. I had 20 of her friends here one night sharing happy stories.

“She moved to Chippenham in May last year, she would have had an interview today (Wednesday) for an access to midwifery course at Swindon. She was really happy the other day. The night before we found her Mat said she was really happy because she was looking forward to studying again.”

She had lived in Potley Lane, Corsham, with her mother and brother Tom, who attends Corsham School’s sixth form, before moving to Chippenham.

Miss Dietschmann and Mr Thomas were due to celebrate their second anniversary together later this month.

She studied at The Corsham School for seven years, taking A-levels in German, French and sociology. She later started a course in education studies at the University of the West of England. But she left after the first year and wanted to become a midwife.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned. Her funeral is at noon on Friday, February 18 at Corsham Town Hall.
