Villagers in Aldbourne are to lose their recycling centre thanks to thoughtless people who have been leaving heaps of rubbish around the recycling bins.

The recycling centre in the Square has bins for cans, paper and glass, which can be put out for the fortnightly kerbside collections carried out by Wiltshire Council.

Unfortunately, said parish council chairman Chris Humphries, some people had been regularly abusing the facility by dumping rubbish ranging from plastic, household waste and furniture, by the bins.

Notices have been put up around Aldbourne this week by the parish council saying it regrets having to close the recycling centre from the end of March. Coun Humphries said: “The parish council decided this had been going for long enough and that the only way to stop it was to close the centre.”

He said it was a shame that genuine users would now miss out.
