Devizes writer Lucy Maxwell-Scott is helping to give out a million books as part of World Book Night.

World Book Night, a national initiative set up by publishers, booksellers, libraries and writers, takes place on March 5 when 20,000 people around the country are distributing 48 copies each of 25 books.

Miss Maxwell-Scott, 52, from Rotherstone, a self-employed human resource management consultant for charities, writes novels and poetry in her spare time.

She has chosen to distribute The World’s Wife by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

She has written to companies in the area which have night shifts, asking their permission to come along and speak to employees before handing out the book.

“I will be asking people to put their names in the hat and hand out the books in a sort of lottery,” she said.
