It was announced last week that the commander of Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Regiment, Major Dick Winters, died at the age of 92.
The feats of Easy Company are well documented by the historian Stephen Ambrose and even more memorably by Steven Spielberg in the television film Band of Brothers. Easy Company was closely associated with Aldbourne, indeed Winters was billeted with the Barnes family.
Would it not be fitting for a plaque or memorial to be placed in Aldbourne as a tribute to such a great man?
