Thieves who broke into Chippenham’s ambulance station have made off with the wheels of a passenger transport vehicle.

The thieves stole all four wheels and left the vehicle itself supported by gas cannisters, which proved to be the bigger problem for staff.

A spokesman said: “The wheels were stolen from a vehicle used for patient transportation and not a regular emergency vehicle, so patients were not put at risk by the theft.

“The most disruptive part of it was that the thieves left four gas cylinders behind, which was a potential hazard, so we made that safe early on.”

Police are currently searching through the CCTV tapes for images of the thieves.
