Stone taken from the base of the Market Cross in Devizes is to be donated to the Drews Pond Wood project.
The pennant stone, a fine-grained sandstone, was replaced by Devizes Town Council when the Market Cross was refurbished a few years ago.
The stone is being stored at Hillworth Park and the town council had hoped that it could be used within the revamp of the park but the quality of the stone is unsuitable.
Instead town councillors have agreed to give the stone to the Drews Pond Wood project for a paved area to be created at the front of an old building at the beauty spot.
Town councillors were told that, given the site’s rustic nature, the quality of the stone is less of an issue.
