Devizes School pupil James Baggott, who used sport to get his life back on track following the murder of his father Matthew, won a regional sports award at Lord’s cricket ground in London on Tuesday.
James, 15, of Commercial Road, Devizes, won the South West Sky Sports Living for Sport student of the year for getting his life back together through boxing.
He was presented with his trophy by former gold medallist Darren Campbell.
The Olympic sprinter said: “James really deserves this award. His story is an inspiration.”
James, who plays football for Devizes Town and Bath City’s academy, was accompanied to the prizegiving by his mother, Sarah Smith, grandfather Alan Smith, and Devizes School PE teacher Philip Cocks.
He said: “My dad probably would have been proud of me receiving the award. He supported me in whatever I did.”
