The motorcyclist who died in a head-on crash near Stanton St Bernard yesterday morning has been named as father of two Lee Roberts from Pewsey.

Mr Roberts, 35, died at the scene after his red Peugeot Speed 5 motorcycle was involved in a colllision with a white Skoda Felicia car driven by a 26-year old woman from Devizes.

The car driver was arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail. She received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police are appealing to any witnesses either to the collision or the manner in which the car and motorcycle were being driven before the crash occurred on the unclassified road between Stanton St Bernard and Allington.

Today the union flag is flying at half-mast over the village hall in Milton Lilbourne where Mr Robert’s parents, Dennis and Ruth live at the New Severalls.

A friend of the family said: “Lee was a very quiet and pleasant lad who would not say boo to a goose.

“The whole village is in shock over the tragedy and our thoughts are with his wife and two children and with his parents.”

His mother serves on the village hall committee and runs Brownie groups both in Milton Lilbourne and Pewsey and his father was for many years a coalman.

Mr Roberts formerly worked in the Co-op in Pewsey and then worked for Jesse Smith butchers in Marlborough until going to work as a butcher near Devizes and he was riding to work at the time of the collision.
