Pupils at St Peter’s Junior School in Marlborough have a new ICT suite, thanks to work by their computer technician Kath Black and new equipment that the school’s Friends helped to buy.

The Friends of St Peter’s marked the opening of the suite by holding a cheese and wine party in the newly refurbished ICT suite, where demonstrations of the new equipment and upgraded facilities were given by Ms Black.

Head teacher Caroline Spindlow said: “The state of the art facilities have been worked on over the summer break to provide a much faster internet access and a teaching station linked to an interactive whiteboard.

“The cost of the upgrade and new equipment has totalled around £12,000.

“Teachers can now demonstrate to the whole class how to, for example, insert a formulae on a Excel spreadsheet or animate and add sound to a power point slide.”

She said the school also had a range of equipment from Lego, which could be programmed together with animation cameras for making film clips and science monitoring equipment.

Mrs Spindlow said: “Children are expected to be highly computer literate in today’s world.

“The aim at St Peter’s is to ensure that the children have as much opportunity as possible to use ICT in all areas of their work – from geography to maths and literacy.

“The children all enjoy their time in the suite and talk very enthusiastically about their knowledge.”

About £12,000 was spent in total with some from school funds, a donation from the friends plus some private donations.
