Wootton Bassett Town Council has donated £500 to help youth activites and says it has more to give away.

Vitalise, which supports disabled people and their carers and Youth Action Wiltshire, both applied to the council for Grant Aid.

Lynn Gibson, Assistant Chief Executive of Youth Action Wiltshire said: “We are delighted to receive a grant from Wootton Bassett Town Council.

“This type of funding allows us to support communities in Wiltshire in a very practical way.

“The funds will help to support a number of young people and youth leaders, who already give up their own time to volunteer within voluntary youth clubs.

“It will give them additional skills and confidence through accredited training, so that the aspiring young leaders and existing youth club leaders can feel better equipped to support the local youth club into the future.”

Each year a share of funds allocated for worthy causes is available for groups that approach Wootton Bassett Town Council for financial support.

Clare Ellisdon of Vitalise added: “This donation is a very welcome contribution to a charity where every pound makes a difference to the lives of local disabled people and their carers.”

Town councillors are now urging other groups to come forward and apply for funding.

Coun Mike Leighfield said: “Councillors were very happy to award Grant Aid to these groups and support their projects in this way.

“We would invite anyone who was unsuccessful this time to apply again next year.

“We are always pleased to look at any new applications.”

Councillors will next consider applications on September 23. Grant application forms and advice are available from the Wootton Bassett Town Council offices or by calling (01793) 850222.
