Former mayor councillor Howard Marshall is delighted with the progress of Calne Boxing Club, which he helped set up nearly a year ago.
“The first day we knew it would be a success as 20 boys and girls queued to register,” said coun Marshall. “Within weeks we had over 50 members.”
As the first birthday approaches next month, Coun Marshall says the club, which meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, has gone from strength to strength. It now has 200 members led by ABA-standard coaches.
Another discipline, Boxersise, non-contact exercise aimed at female participants, has been added.
The club is also offering a non-contact section for five to eight-year-olds and nine to 17s, who could earn a GCSE in boxing skills.
