Shattered cyclists Dean Burry and Dan Taylor were given a heroes’ welcome when they returned to Calne from Milan last week.

The 25-year-old friends look set to raise £1,600 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, £1,000 more than their target.

Now they are planning another charity challenge.

“It was absolutely brilliant, we loved every minute,” said Mr Taylor of the 900-mile trip. “We are in so much pain, but it was completely worth it.

“Europe was amazing, we saw some great sights but the best was probably Switzerland, that was definitely a highlight. the Alps were incredible. And riding along the top of the Col Du Grand St Bernard pass was great.

“We had a few problems with Dean’s rear wheel as we got back to the UK, but there were a lot of people who helped us out along the way.

“We are both completely shattered but we are going to do something like this again. we’ve got a few ideas but nothing in concrete just yet.”

The pair flew to Milan to start their adventure before embarking on the journey home through the Alps, into Switzerland, through France to Dieppe, and then caught the ferry to Newhaven and cycled back to Calne where friends and family greeted them at The Strand.

They completed the trek in 12 days, with three rest days.
