West Lavington youth club is £1,800 to the good after a fundraising weekend in the village.

Sixteen gardens, including those at West Lavington Manor, opened their gates to members of the public in aid of the youth club, originally set up by actor George Baker.

Mr Baker added to the weekend’s festivities by organising a concert at the Manor, starring Trowbridge Youth Choir.

He said: “The day went absolutely brilliantly and the choir sang marvellously. We also had jazz singer Audrey Tytz and Jake Langton on guitar.”

Mr Baker had also invited TV star Simon Shepherd and West End songstress Sarah Payne but neither could make it.

Mr Baker said: “I don’t think I gave them enough notice. But the day went so well, I can’t complain.”

The youth club needs to raise some £15,000 for running costs after its latest bid for Wiltshire Council funding was turned down.
