The three main candidates have been speaking out as the last few votes are counted in Chippenham.

Lib-Dem candidate Duncan Hames said he felt the count is too close to call as the second half of the votes are registered.

He said: "There is nothing more that we can do, which is just as well considering how tired we all are at this stage.

"I am exhausted but we are hopeful. It is actually less stressful now than it was before 10pm.

"We will have to wait and see. Today has been really good."

Mr Hames was out and about from 6am making a final push for votes.

He said: "We made sure that people in course of a busy day didn't lose an opportunity that they may not get for another five years.

"That is a certain adrenaline that keeps you going.

"I am a little nervous.

"It was always going to be close here."

Conservative candidate Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones said: "I am excited but it is a nerve-wracking time.

"I've been going out today, visiting all the polling stations and thanking all my supporters.

"It is going to be very close. The fact that it is very close is a victory in itself.

"My supporters have been absolutely brilliant and I would like to thank them all."

Labour candidate Greg Lovell said he was pleased with the support from Chippenham residents.

"I'm feeling good, it's very hard to judge but I think we've actually done reasonably well here in Chippenham, and I think, hopefully, that is a reflection of the campaign that we have undertaken here and shows that people still believe in what we are standing for."
