The new Chippenham constituency is taking shape and tensions are mounting at the Olympiad Leisure Centre.
Staff have been working non-stop over the last few days setting up the count facilities in the main sports hall.
The first box bulging with ballot papers arrived at the Olympiad at 10.06pm from the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, just metres away in Cocklebury Road.
Deputy Acting Returning Officer Ian Gibbons stood up in front of the count staff and explained that the postal votes, which had been cast over the last few weeks, would be the first to be counted.
He added that the verification process will take a few hours before counting of the votes commences.
