Local bands were pitted against each other to win a £100 prize at a battle of the bands jointly organised by police and young people in Wootton Bassett.
Around 200 people watched five bands battle it out at the Blues ‘n’ Zuz contest at the Memorial Hall.
Beyond the Break eventually emerged as winner, and was given £100 by the town mayor Steve Bucknell. The other bands were joint second The Cool and Plastic Fiction, 3 Will Dixon and 4 Ryan Curtis.
Sergeant Martin Alvis said: “Discos were not for the young people of Wootton Bassett. Instead they wanted their own unique event and that is exactly what they got.
“This won’t be the last and already the young people are planning for next year.
“The battle of the bands competition provided entertainment and enhanced their skills in business management, and showed the community what they are all about.”
The junior chamber of commerce at Wootton Bassett School worked with the police to design posters, print tickets, run the soft drinks bar and enlist bands.
