ROCK legend Peter Gabriel helped Colerne School say goodbye to 25 years of mobile misery.
On Wednesday, July 5, the musician, who has recording studios in nearby Box, officially opened five new classrooms, a central working area and new headteacher's office together worth nearly £400,000.
They have replaced mouldy mobile classrooms, infested with flies and running with condensation.
Headteacher Anne Orme said: The mobiles were horrific. The windows were running with condensation. The new classrooms could not be more different, she said.
Mr Gabriel, 50, said: It's probably easier hitching a ride from a UFO than getting a new school buildings these days.
I've only just learned how to open an envelope and a door but I've never been asked to open a building before.
The school's first mobile classrooms arrived in the 1970s and were intended to last only six months.
The funding for the project was secured by Wiltshire Education Authority and the mobiles have been furnished and equipped by PTA fundraising.
