HOLLYWOOD'S finest names are converging on Swindon for the cinematic sale of the century.

Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, David Niven and Alec Guinness are just some of the signatures penned in an autograph album which comes under the hammer of auctioneer Dominic Winter on July 19.

Other stars featured in the precious collection, compiled by a driver contracted to Pinewood Studios during the 1960s, include Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave, Jack Hawkins, Claudette Colbert and James Robertson-Justice.

What started as a fun way of recording celebrities as they were driven around during a day's work is expected to reach at least £1,200.

Monroe's signature is one of the most sought-after of all cinema celebrities, said auctioneer Mr Winter, who is selling the palm-sized album at his saleroom in Maxwell Street.

It is certainly a unique treasure to find her signature in the same album with so many other Hollywood greats.

The album is just one of more than 100 autograph lots at the sale, which includes a racy 1950s calendar of a youthful Miss Monroe.

The most famous blonde bombshell of all time signs Love and kisses before her name, David Niven says Good Luck and Alec Guinness sends All Good Wishes .

The album was compiled by taxi driver Robert Bird, from Bath, who was asked to convey stars from Bath to Castle Combe for the filming of the classic Dr Dolittle in 1967.
