THE FUNERAL of a well-known Swindon referee has taken place in Swindon.
Ivor Goodenough, 71, of Hallam Moor, Liden, died last week.
He was a well known figure in the football community as first a player and then later as a referee.
Ivor, born in Old Town, worked at Pressed Steel as a die-fitter. He played for More-don YC, St Paul's, Even Swindon, and Gorse Hill.
Ivor started refereeing in 1962, in the Wilts Premier, the Hellenic, and other local leagues and competitions, and he was chairman of Swindon Referees' Association.
Mike Benson, the secretary of the Wiltshire Football Association, said: Ivor was a work colleague of mine for many years at Pressed Steel.
He introduced me to refereeing. He was a good friend and will be missed by all.
Ivor is survived by his wife Ada, children Lynn and Dale, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
His son Dale Goodenough, 33, of Thackery Close, Liden, said: If more people were as dedicated as Ivor was to football it would be great for Swindon.
The funeral was held on Thursday, July 6, at Kingsdown Crematorium.
