A FAMILY including three young children was left stranded when a booked taxi failed to turn up despite repeated assurances that it was on its way.

Mum Kay Wainwright was furious at having to wait outside the Gas Club, in Gorse Hill, where she had been for her son's football team annual presentation night.

She was waiting outside for an hour and a half with her 20-month-old son Harrison, her other son Sam, eight, and a friend of his, Louis, who is also eight.

The 36-year-old mum, of Newbury Drive, Freshbrook, West Swindon, said she had been joined by her partner Colin Burdock later in the evening.

She said: I was lucky he was able to join us. As a shop fitter, he works all hours. I would not have wanted to be out on the streets alone with three children.

She had booked two cabs from Millennium Radio Cars to pick her and a friend's family up after the event at 11.30pm.

Only one taxi arrived, so we agreed that our friends take the first one. The taxi driver assured us that the other one would be on its way shortly.

After waiting for ages, we managed to borrow a mobile phone to call the taxi company. They said the taxi would soon be with us.

The promised taxi did not arrive. The family were eventually able to flag down a passing taxi at 1.30pm.

Millennium Taxis manager, Mark Shayler said: We very much regret the incident. The mistake happened because of a communication problem."
