A HOT steamy night of Salsa is on the menu at the World Music Concert in the Old Town Garden Bowl in Swindon.

Topping the bill at this spicy night out, on Saturday, July 8, are Grupo X, set up by trombonist Jonny Enright.

The band play a mix of Nu Yorican music such as Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta and the Joe Cuba Sexta and contemporary sounding salsa including Masters At Work.

The lead singer is Carlos Pena from Venezuela. Joining Carlos and Jonny are Trevor Miles on trombone, Finn Peters on alto sax and flute, John Crawford on piano, Simon Edwards on bass and on percussion Jimmy Le Messurier and Pete Eckford.

Grupo X have become the unofficial house band for London's prestigious Jazz Cafe backing visiting salsa stars such as Cuban piano legend Alfredo Rodrigues, US percussion maestro Johnny Blas and Bobby Matos.

Gates open for picnics at 6pm and at 6.30pm Swindon's own Ritmo Latino will give a dance workshop.

There will be stalls selling hot food to compliment the theme of each concert as well as a licensed bar.

Salsa is the third in the series of four concerts and the next world music extravaganza will be on Saturday July 29 with Jazz Roots.
