MARLBOROUGH are a point clear at the top of the Division One table at the halfway stage of the season, with Saturday's (July 2) result against lowly Buscot Park still to come.

With Hinton Charterhouse's match against Potterne having been re-arranged for a later date, the chasing sides took advantage to close up.

Westinghouse moved into second place following their surprisingly narrow seven run win at bottom of the table Lechlade. For Westinghouse Pete Bailey top scored with 60 in their 192 all out. Despite the efforts of Roger Pettifer (58) and Kevin Sweet (52) Lechlade were bowled out for 185.

A point back in third spot are Swindon Nalgo, who cruised to an easy nine wicket home win over struggling Minety. They bowled their visitors out for just 96, with Darren Fisher taking 5-17 and Maurice Beale 3-7. Lorne Kitchen made a valiant 51. Shahaz Zafar (34) and Taheer Hanif (48 not out) then helped Nalgo to knock off the runs in 26 overs.

Box had to struggle for their three wicket win at Calne in a game where the bowlers were predominately on top. Calne scored 124 all out, with Paul Rowson (37) and Nick Mooney (27) top scoring as Richard Foley took 5-41 in 14 overs. Thanks to Andy Crawford (49 not out) and Neil Pettit (38), Box achieved victory with five overs to spare. For Calne Colin Sykes bowled well to take 4-21 in 10 overs.

Division Two

BEANACRE remain undefeated after they won by seven wickets at home to second place Biddestone.

Biddestone batted well to score 181-8, with Dave Perry (39) and Andy Hunt (29) the major contributors as Andy Footner took 4-31. Opener Ian Nairn (59 not out) and Paul Gilbert (54 not out) took Beanacre to victory with ten overs to spare.

Bath Civil Service take over in second place and in so doing open up a gap back to fourth placed Great Bedwyn, Biddestone now being third.

Bedwyn scored 188-7, with John Downes top scoring with 53. Terry Purchase, 5-7 in 7.1 overs, and Alan Brown, 5-21 in 13, then bowled their hosts out for 108 in the 40th over.

Cooper-Avon Tyres move up to fourth following their 16 run win at bottom placed Spye Park. Duncan Wildle (81 not out) led the way as they scored 198-4. Spye were then restricted to 176-9 in response, with Andy Ellis (57) top scoring.

Bradford Town gained only their second success as they overcame fellow strugglers Burbage and ER by four wickets. Burbage, thanks to Paul Balcombe (66), reached a respectable 202-8 as Dave Edwards took 4-50 in 14 overs.

Chris Watts (56) and Clive Warren (74) then steered Bradford home with three balls to spare. For Burbage Terry Chaplin took 3-74 in his 15 overs.

Division Three

WITH four of the top five winning the only changes are due to the bonus points gained.

Sutton Veny move top on their own after they won by 99 runs at home to Collingbourne.

Mat Reed (55) and Rob McFerran (89 not out) saw Sutton Veny to 216-5. Colin Brown then took 7-26 in 11 overs as Collingbourne were dismissed for 117.

Swindon Civil Service had a harder struggle as, in a slow scoring, bowler dominated game, they emerged with a four wicket win at Dauntsey Gentlemen. The home side found runs hard to get and ended at 107-8 from their 45 overs. Greg Dicks (36) and Bill Scotford (26) were their most successful batsmen. For Swindon Steve Shelley took 2-21 in 15 overs and Andy Mildenhall 1-32 in his 15 overs. It was finally left to Martin Hobbs (17 not out) and Tony Fuller (19 not out) to see the Civil Service side home with five overs left. For Dauntsey Gordon Barnicoat took 2-29 in 15 overs and Dicks 2-25.

Another bowlers' match saw Bath Hospitals win by 15 runs against visiting Seagry after they had been bowled out for just 97 as Andy Morris took 6-33. Only Mark Earle (31) offered much resistance. John Fair then went one better as he took 7-23, with only Dave Williams (29) helping Seagry to 82 all out with 15 overs still remaining.

Wanborough had the biggest win of the day in the division as they beat visiting Lambourn by ten wickets.

For the visitors Paul Hawkins (40) top scored in their 122 all out as Andy Fraser took 5-23 in 13 overs. Paul Sore (54 not out) and Dave Hayden (52 not out) then made light work of the task as Wanborough's win came with 14 overs still remaining.

Bradford Town 2nds still seek their first win after narrowly losing at Moredon Royal Oak by two runs.

Their bowlers did well to restrict Moredon to 112-7, Steve French making a patient 42 not out as Steve Crute took 2-16 in 15 miserly overs and Tom Dickburn 3-46 in 15.

Julian Brown responded with 6-23 and Bradford were bowled out in the 27th over for 110.

Division Four

NATIONWIDE continue to dominate the division after they won at Ramsbury by five wickets. Mark Morris took 5-18 in 14 overs as the host club struggled for runs, ending on 125-9 with Steve Passenger (39) top scoring. Bill Sherwood then scored 49 not out to steer Nationwide home.

Blunsdon lost for the second week, surprisingly going down by 58 runs at home to Nettleton. Ian Witt (44) helped Nettleton to 162-9 and Neil Wicheard then took 4-32 in 15 overs as, despite John Hancock's 54 not out, Blunsdon were restricted to 104-9 in reply.

Cherhill chalked up their first success as they beat fellow strugglers Hungerford 3rds. Andrew Martin (69) anchored their innings as they made 140 all out against some accurate bowling, Mark Westbrook taking 5-23 in 12.3 overs and Dave Taylor 3-20 in five. Westbrook (31) and Andy Lawrence (32) then top scored for Hungerford, but it was not enough as with Mal Parrack taking 3-41 in nine over, Les Welling, 3-26 in 15, and Stuart Smith, 3-20 in nine overs, they were bowled out for 102.

Amesbury are still seeking a first win in the division. Charlie Barnett's five for 25 for home side Mildenhall helped bundle them out for just 42 and towards a ten wicket defeat. Graham Giles scored 25 not out in Mildenhall's response.

Division Five

WILCOT head the table after their four wicket home win over Heytesbury.

In the visitors' 146 all out Justin Wagstaff (60) top scored as Tom Smith, 4-36 in 15 overs, and Roger Cope, 4-37 in 12, took the wickets. Dave Hillier (48) and Mark Godley (24 not out) then steered Wilcot home.

Wroughton Wranglers slipped up at home to Swindon 3rds, losing by five wickets. Mark McMeekin (38 not out) top scored in their 191-7, but it was Swindon's Matt Baker (87 not out) which took the visitors to a well deserved victory.

Chippenham 3rds raced to 255-7 at home to Warminster 3rds, with Dave Richards top scoring with 80. He then took 6-55 in 10 overs as Warminster were bowled out for 181.

Burbage and ER 2nds enjoyed an entertaining game with GWR Extra 2nds before losing by eight wickets. Paul Swatten (54) top scored in Burbage's 175 all out as Mike Dale took 6-39 in 14 overs and Ian Morton 3-56 in 15. Dale then hit a sound 58 and with Simon Elliott (92) helped GWR hit the runs off in just 30 overs.

Corsham 3rds collapsed to 37 all out at United Churches, with James Hill taking 6-2 in 3.4 overs. Churches went on to win by eight wickets.

Division Six A

HINTON Charterhouse 2nds take over at the head of the table, overtaking Keevil who were without a game.

At Bath Civil Service 2nds the home side scored 175-6, which Hinton overtook for the loss of five wickets with eight overs left.

Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nds gained ground as they overcame visiting Calne 2nds by 63 runs. Steve Collett (57) and John Woodward (36) top scored in Cooper-Avon's 185 all out, as Lew Butler took 4-39 in 15 overs.

John Jenkins then hit a stubborn 39 in the Calne reply of 132-8 as Graham Larque took 3-22 in eight overs.

Westinghouse 2nds gained their first win at the expense of Bradford Town 3rds, who they bundled out for 47. Andy Day, 5-33 in 10 overs, and James Haynes, 4-13 in nine over, did the damage. Chris Ferris (23 not out) then took Westinghouse to a welcome six wicket win.

Beanacre 2nds slipped up at Wootton Bassett 3rds, who scored 204-4, with Dave Griffen (62 not out) and Martin Hill (42) top scoring. Beanacre were then restricted to 169-9 in reply, Chris Taylor making 39 and Gareth Onslow taking 3-20 in 15 accurate overs.

Division Six B

BIDDESTONE 2nds remain top of the table despite a surprise home defeat at the hands of previously winless Trowbridge A.

Don Keighley (40), Mike Crystal (39) and Howard Moorland (35) helped Biddestone to 196-8 as Alan Rutland took 5-61 in 12 overs. Adie Ayland (79) and Martin Russam (30 not out) then saw Trowbridge to a six wicket win, Howard taking 2-37 in his 15 overs.

Buscot Park 2nds took advantage of losses by Box 2nds and Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nds to move into third place.

Buscot were at Marlborough 2nds, who, thanks to Nick Dobson (52) and Jiggy Patel (33), scored 159-9. Buscot went on to win by six wickets with 14 balls remaining, thanks to Paul Stone (43) and Ray O'Neil (38).

A weakened Box 2nds (with nine men) did well to score 188-6 at home to Goatacre 3rds. Eric Martell (85 not out), Pat Murphy (54), Andy Sandel (48 not out) and Richard Grigg (55) then steered the visitors to a six wicket win with two overs remaining.

At Potterne 2nds visiting Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nds scored 161-9, with Hugh Fry making 58 and Kevin Gover taking 3-40 for Potterne. Some sound batting from Lidsay Fortune (45), Brendan Baker (35), David Evans (26) and Tony Stratfield (23) then took Potterne to a four wicket win. For Dauntsey Nick Thomas took 4-63.

Division Seven A

SWINDON Litten Tree take over as leaders after bowling Swindon 4ths out for 106. Kevin Thompson made 36 and Martin Sanson took 6-40 in 14 overs. With Matthew Bennett making 41 and Kevin Crook (39 not out) Litten Tree knocked the runs off in 20 overs for the loss of one wicket.

Previous leaders Marshfield 3rds lost by eight wickets at Lacock. Tony Edwards made the most of overcast conditions as he took 5-14 in 15 overs as the Marshfield batsmen struggled to score 127-9. As conditions eased after tea, opener Barry Harding (58 not out) led Lacock to an eight wicket win.

Sadly in this division Westbury 4ths have withdrawn. All points involving their games having therefore been expunged.

Division Seven B

LAVINGTON continue to set the pace after they beat second place Devizes 3rds by 44 runs.

Mat Holst (71) top scored in the Lavington total of 211-7, with Andy Lanagan taking 4-60 in 15 overs. James Bitner (45) top scored in the Devizes reply of 167 all out, with Ally Bissett, 4-60 in 15 over, being the pick of the Lavington bowlers.

Chippenham 4ths were shot out for 77 at Warminster 4ths, with Paul Davidson taking 4-9 in seven overs. Only Steve Honeybone (23) and Andrew Merryweather (16) reached double figures. Nick Hill (24 not out) and Will Gray (17 not out) then took Warminster to an eight wicket success.

Wootton Bassett 4ths managed only 71 all out at Highworth 2nds and Rob Miller (33 not out) then saw Highworth home.
