COLIN Todd hopes to see the fruits of his tough summer recruitment campaign as he continues to rebuild the ravaged squad.

Five of 11 new players expected to turn up for pre-season training are already lined up to sign for the club, while a further six will be hoping to impress during a trial period.

Those trialists include two players from Spain, two from Sweden and two from England.

Todd is already close to securing the services of goalkeeper Bart Griemink, defender Juan Cobian, midfielders Matt Hewlett and Keith O'Halloran, and striker Martin Williams.

All five were in training when the team met up for the first time at Allied Dunbar on Friday, July 7.

Speaking before training, Todd said: There will be a few new faces there. All of the five lads mentioned will be training, although their deals are still subject to a medical.

I just hope that all of the trialists turn up. I have had confirmation that they will be attending, but I am just hoping that I am not let down.

One of the players rumoured to be given the chance to impress is former Manchester United defender Neil Whitworth, who has ben released by Hull.

Todd and his management team of Malcolm Crosby and Andy King have already designed routes around the Swindon streets for the players to run during pre-season.

However, Todd promises that the opening few days of training will be used to ease the players back into the action.

The team have six pre-season friendlies lined up, including matches against Southampton and West Ham. The season kicks off on August 12 against Colchester at the County Ground.

They have all been told to look after themselves over the summer and hopefully they will come back in good shape, he said.

We are all looking forward to getting stuck in and hopefully the off-field situation will be sorted out soon so we can all concentrate on the football.

Former Town goalkeeper Frank Talia is understood to be a target for West Brom boss Gary Megson.

The Aussie was released at the end of last season and Megson believes he could be the answer to the Baggies' problems.
